Whether you are towing a large trailer, horsebox or caravan, you are legally required to obtain a Category B+E license if you have obtained your car driving licence after January 1997.
The B+E car and trailer licence enables car and van drivers to legally tow large trailers or caravans. Having a B+E driving licence is necessary for drivers who passed their car driving test on or after January 1997.
The Category B+E licence will allow you to tow a trailer with a Maximum Authorised Mass of over 750 kgs on a vehicle weighing 3.5 tonnes; or a vehicle and trailer/horsebox/caravan combination over 3.5 tonnes.
